Ketanji Brown Jackson is an American attorney. She has been Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, since June 17, 2021, and, previously, Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, from March 26, 2013 to June 17, 2021.
Ketanji is the daughter of Ellery, who was principal at New World School of the Arts, and Johnny Brown, who was chief attorney for the Miami-Dade County School Board. Her parents graduated from historically black colleges. Ketanji was raised in Miami, Florida.
Ketanji is married to surgeon Patrick G. Jackson, with whom she has two children. Patrick’s brother is married to the sister of Janna Ryan, who is the wife of Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.
