Alan Keyes is an American conservative political activist, author, diplomat, and politician. He served as Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs, from November 13, 1985 to November 17, 1987. He was a candidate for the Republican Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 1996, 2000, and 2008, and for the Constitution Party’s presidential nomination, also in 2008.
Alan is the son of Gerthina Alease (Quick) and Allison Lester Keyes. His father was born in Maryland and his mother was born in North Carolina.
Alan’s paternal grandfather was Sterling Keyes (the son of Henry Keyes and Annie).
