Joe Madison was an American radio talk show host and activist. He broadcast daily on SiriusXM Urban View. He was nicknamed “The Black Eagle” and “Madison.”
He was raised by Nancy (Stone) and Felix Edward Madison. On the show Finding Your Roots, with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. (2019), he discovered that though he thought Felix was his biological father for his entire adult life, he was not. His biological father was Herman Haygood. Joe had two paternal half-brothers he was not aware of, including one who had attended school with him. Felix Madison was born in Mississippi, the son of Malachi C. Madison and Arcenia Smiley.
Genetic desting done on the show also revealed that Joe had roots in Sierra Leone and Mozambique.
Joe was married to Sharon (Sherry), and had four children.
Joe’s biological paternal grandfather was Andrew Hagood/Haygood (the son of Lemuel/Limel D. Hagood and Emma Tompkin/Tomkins/Tompkins/Thompson). Andrew was born in Alabama, and was part of the Tuskegee syphilis experiment. Lemuel was a white man, who had fought for the Confederacy. Emma was black. Lemuel and Emma lived together, and had at least six children.
Joe’s biological paternal grandmother was Lela Green (the daughter of Dowdy L. Green and Annie L. Williams). Lela was born in Alabama. Dowdy was likely the son of Moses Green and Elizabeth.
Joe’s maternal grandfather was Joseph R. Stone (the son of Marion Stone and Pauline Walker). Joseph was born in Mississippi. Pauline was the daughter of Joe Walker and Lettie.
Joe’s maternal grandmother was Ethel Mae Walter (the daughter of George Walter and Ethel Pelly). Ethel was born in Maine, to a father from Antigua, Antigua and Barbuda and a mother from Canada, who likely was of Black Nova Scotian background.
