MC Lyte is an American rapper, entrepreneur, actress, voice actress, and DJ. She was the first female rapper to release a solo album, “Lyte as a Rock” (1988), and is known for her songs “Cha Cha Cha,” “Paper Thin,” “10% Dis,” “Ruffneck,” and “Poor Georgie.” She has been awarded Harvard’s W. E. B. Du Bois Medal. She is also known as Sparkle and Lytro.

MC Lyte grew up in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York City. Her mother, Constance Moorer, was born in New York. All of her maternal great-great-grandparents were born in South Carolina. A photo of MC Lyte with her parents can be seen here.

Some sources state that Nat Robinson, record executive and father of hip-hop duo Audio Two, is MC Lyte’s biological father, but this is not accurate. MC Lyte has said that Nat was a father figure to her, and his sons are like her brothers.

MC Lyte’s maternal grandfather was Harden Moorer (the son of William Moorer and Viola Bowman). Harden was born in South Carolina. William was the son of Jeff Moorer and Celia Pelzer. Viola was the daughter of Irvin Bowman and Mary Lawton.

MC Lyte’s maternal grandmother was named Mary. Mary was born in Maryland.
